Update: The giveaway is closed, and we have a winner! Congratulations, Marylou, your bookshelf should be expanding shortly.

Thank you all so much for your comments. I loved reading them all, and appreciate your participation. And to answer your questions, yes, you can certainly enter if you’re family, and yes, submissions from other countries are always quite welcome. Also, if you signed up for the emails, and didn’t see anything this morning, be sure to check your spam folder. Sometimes they get thrown in there on the first round. Till next time…

Hello all,

One of the delights of my life is owning wonderful books, and sharing them with people who will love them as much as I. And so, to celebrate the almost-arrival of autumn, I’d like to give one of you a couple classics to read with your tea and pumpkin rolls this season. The lovely hardcover copies ofΒ Little Women and Emma are good additions to any bookshelf, and Little BearΒ is just the thing for your kiddos or nieces and nephews or for yourself when nobody’s looking.

To enter this giveaway, simply comment on this post. Tell me about your day, or what you like about fall, or what your favorite book is, or whatever you feel led to say. All comments will qualify. And if you’d like an occasional peppy email from me, make sure the little email box is checked when you comment.

The giveaway will run until Thursday night, the end of August. I’ll announce the winner Friday. Happy commenting!

P.S. Just so you know, the books in my giveaways are gently used. I believe in loving and re-loving books until they’re in tatters. Aren’t those the best ones, after all?

  1. Am I too late to enter the contest? My day went well. Wrote some important letters. Had a really important conversation with my frenemy Alex. Let me know when the next giveaway is. I’ll wait for it.

    1. Hey Charles, yes it’s too late for this one, but stay tuned for more! Tell me more about this conversation. I wanna be in the room where it happened.

  2. What I love about fall? I love the bright skies, and bonfires, and fresh apple cider, and the wearing of sweaters, and pretty much everything. Minus the fact that winter is coming. πŸ˜‰

  3. I love fall and I love books. One of my favorites is The Witch of Blackbird Pond by Elizabeth George Speare. But I have so many favorites……

  4. Today I am recovering from vacation, ignoring the sore throat that’s threatening me, and trying to get my homeschool rhythm back. The better news is that bread dough is rising, boeuf bourguignon is simmering, I have apples and pumpkins in my house, and it’s almost nap time. Oh, and cousin Rachel is doing another giveaway!

  5. Do your relatives qualify? I didn’t think I would ever want to enter for a book giveaway, but Little Women just sound like such a good read!

My day’s going okay, we pulled in our driveway around 7:30am, Hudson is finally napping at 11:30, and now i’m just sipping my tea and reading your blog, while not unpacking….

  6. Enjoying a cool morning with my littlest while the older ones are “schooling” themselves… but I should be getting ready for my yard sale instead of poking around the internet! :0

  7. Today was kind of a bad day, I got sick and the holidays are almost over! The book Master and Margarita is keeping me company though. Have a nice day!

  8. I think we’re kindred spirits when it comes to love of Fall – and oh am I excited! (Also, you might like to know that I finished “The Lord of the Rings” last night. Deep sigh. Now I can continue with life again. :))

  9. The leaves are just starting to turn here, so that combined with cool mornings is getting me excited about fall. I made a few end of the summer fun goals I’m excited about accomplishing next month too!

  10. I’m so in the mood for new autumn reading. I feel the season changing, and the sort of lazy summer vibe slowly fading out. A new semester of uni is about to start up, and I’ll have to do so much reading for it, but I’m excited. I love being productive when there’s a good routine going. And what’s more is that I find reading productive. I’ll be annoyed at myself for wasting all day on the internet, but never ever for sitting down and reading a good book all day.

p.s. I hope this giveaway is international, Irish girl here! πŸ™‚

  11. I was basically a hermit most of the day and that was enjoyable. Also, I tried to wash the bird poop off of my car.

  12. Ah! Jane Austen. I simply love her books. And Emma is so relatable! I think I love matchmaking as much as she does.I’ve never completed the book though since I don’t own my own copy. But. Fall? : is it even possible to describe my favorite part because THERE ARE SO MANY GOOD THINGS!! But I do mostly look forward to the crisp, cool air because I’m just done with this humidity. (Thanks, Middle Georgia) And curling up with a book, a cozy blanket, and something hot to drink is my kind of party. ❀️

  13. My favorites about fall are campfires, and cozy warm drinks, along with the splendid home baked fall creations πŸ™‚ oh and the cooler weather and upcoming hunting season means the busy overfilled days of summer are over! Yay.

  14. I am eager to sit around the crackling fire in the backyard with friends to feel the snappy autumn air roasting s’mores and drinking peppermint schnapps infused hot chocolate while telling dreamy stories and watching the friendly stars twinkle in delight at the goodness below.

  15. Was a rainy, dreary day that ended with a gorgeous night sky!
We did school, played logos, baked cookies & had movie night.

  16. A rainy, dreary day. We did school, read stories, played logos, cooked meals ,did dishes & then we had movie night & baked peanut butter blossom cookies (which I would pass you one here if I could) I’m actually not ready for fall at all! I love warm, summer days β˜€οΈβ€β™€οΈβ€β™€οΈβ€β™€οΈβ›±

  17. Fall is coming so early this year. Already the wind in the trees has a dry rustling sound, unlike spring winds. I love the smells of fall, the goldenrod and even the ripening Ragweed and those yellow flowers that look like miniature sunflowers.
I also love old books. One of my best treasures is the very old children’s book, This is the train who’s name is Joe that we have read aloud to children in our laps, over and over for two generations.

  18. Yay! Love old movies and books! But not excited about all this fall talk on Instagram because that means winter and dreary days follow soon after!!

  19. Today I was a school marm, did some laundry, picked multiple buckets of produce from my garden that needs preserving tomorrow, ran errands in town and ate corn on the cob for supper to my hearts content. I love Fall because it means that the air is crisp, the sky is a dazzling blue, pumpkins are ripening in the garden and our tea and coffee pot is always at the ready.

  20. Today was productive and exciting. My bags are packed and I’m off to Ireland tomorrow. πŸ™‚ I love fall because of that intoxicating feeling in the air. And because my family is a football family, every Saturday is a party. And I love classic literature so your giveaway looks delightful. πŸ™‚ PS. I’ve been following your blog and enjoying it! You probably don’t remember me but I used to know some of your older siblings. πŸ™‚

  21. I ventured out of the house for the first time since having kid #3. We went to the chiropractor, Walmart and took lunch to Jon at work. I came home and drank coffee while I made elderberry syrup like a crunchy Mama. I also bribed my kids with chocolate and played checkers with them.

  22. The lovely thing about leftover apples and lemon curd is that they can be made into hand pies which is what I did yesterday. Also, fall is upon us. “Callooh! Callay! He chortled in his joy.”

  23. One thing I like about Fall (besides cool, crisp, or colorful) is reflecting on childhood memories that happened in the Fall. Two of my favorites are running upstairs after school where the bushels of pears were spread out ripening and selecting the perfect juicy one for my after-school snack; and scuffling barefooted along the dusty path through the woods and along the hedge to the back forty to bring up the cows for milking while sampling the tiny wild cherries.
I’ll enjoy the books, if I win them, but I will especially enjoy Fall and reading what other people enjoy about it!

  24. Things that excite me about fall: crisp, fresh air, Apple venues in the mountains at which you may find all manner of delicious fruits, allll the baking, the hot drinks & cozy atmospheres!

Also, should you ‘happen upon’ PA in this season, do check in at my abode. Dear doesn’t wish to eat as many delectables as I wish to bake!

  25. My day was amazing but sooo busy with my normal household stuff, business zooms and playing UNO with my boys where they won fair and square! My house is quiet, boys in bed, rain gently sounding on the metal roof and all is right in my corner of the world!

  26. I loved what you said at the end about loving and re-loving books until they’re in tatters. Used books really are the best. I like thinking about who the previous owner(s) might have been and what their thoughts were on the book. I especially love when previous owners underline their favorite quotes or write their own little comments. It’s like a little glimpse into their soul.

  27. Today was lovely: a picnic by a Michigan stream, with cookie butter and fresh baguettes. I saw two orange leaves and it just added the cherry to the day.
